NSA Day of Cyber FAQ

Here are the FAQ’s of getting your students started on an invaluable cyber career exploration experience!

  1. What is the NSA Day of Cyber?

The National Security Agency (NSA) is sponsoring a national initiative called the NSA Day of Cyber, designed using the LifeJourney™ platform to raise the National IQ for STEM and Cyber Science. The program introduces and inspires all middle school, high school and college students to pursue STEM careers and build the skills that will open up their future and connect them to the in-demand digital workforce.

  1. Is the NSA Day of Cyber just September 4 – 13 2018?

For Hawaii participants, we recommend running your NSA Day during this time period to be eligible for two grand prizes.

  1. Why should students participate?

The NSA Day of Cyber is a powerful and exciting way for students to see and experience the benefit of following a cyber and STEM education pathway. By experiencing the NSA Day of Cyber, students will be more prepared to make decisions for their future.

  1. Is there a cost to participate?

No, the NSA Day of Cyber is free for all students, teachers, schools and organizations.

  1. Do I need training to run the NSA Day of Cyber?

No, the NSA LifeJourney Mentor guides users through the entire NSA Day of Cyber experience in a self-paced format.

  1. What is the recommended grade level for classroom participation?

Grades 6-12

  1. What are the system requirements to run the NSA Day platform?

You can run a system test on the computers you plan to use here, and Make sure you have good Internet access, as you will need that to access NSA Day of Cyber content, particularly the videos and cyber exercises. System Test .

  • Students should use headphones to best experience the exciting audio/video
  • Ideally, each student will use their own computer, navigate through the NSA Day of Cyber journeys, select their favorite mentors, and watch/listen to exciting videos of those mentors telling their stories. If you don’t have enough computers, try pairing students up.

  1. How long does NSA Day of Cyber takes?

The NSA Day of Cyber is a self-run and self-paced online experience guided by an NSA mentor in the platform. Student involvement is in two “parts”:

  • Part 1 is usually conducted in the classroom and takes approximately 45 minutes. Students will meet the NSA Cyber Team, run the first Cyber Challenge, and generate their Cyber Resume.
  • Part 2 involves students’ continuation of the experience from their dashboard, as homework or as ongoing activities in the classroom. Students will explore four additional NSA journeys and run the Cyber Challenge, which will collectively take about two hours and should be completed within 2-3 weeks. Students will then be able to download their NSA Day of Cyber Certificate of Completionwhich, along with the Cyber Resume, is a significant indication of their achievement and a tool for your ongoing use with them in the classroom.
